• Hosting - Once you register a domain name, it is the "pointed" to a server. In short, the server is a computer. On this server is where the files to the actual website are stored. There are dozens and dozens of different hosting setups. There are several main contenders in the actual manufacturing of the hardware, the machine that is the computer itself, this is called the server. The act of your website files being stored on the server is called hosting. These servers usually run on one of two operating systems (software to run the server). Either a Microsoft based system or a Unix/Linux setup. It is important to know which one you will need. Hosting is measured and priced similar to any utility. Depending on how big your site is and how many people use it, will depend on your hosting cost. Market ranges for just hosting for an average site can range between $10 and $50 per month. • Website Files- As simple as it may seem, the website files themselves are a much needed component. These files in there physical form look like a Word Document with text on it. But it is not, that is just what it may look like to a non-programmer. They are actually file such as .html, .htm, .asp files and there is code or programming language on them. There are close to a dozen common programming languages. These programming languages are meant to be interpreted by your computers browser ( Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Safari ) and then display what we as humans see as text and images.
